Consulting Work on IDAs-- Canada
A Global Assets Project Initiative
From 1998, the Center for Social Development (CSD) and the have consulted with Canadian government and non-profit organizations running IDA programs. Several IDA programs have been started in Canada, and a large IDA demonstration, Learn$ave, was initiated in 2001. CSD consulted with Social Demonstration Research Corporation on research design for Learn$ave and shared research instruments from the American Dream Demonstration. Under contract CSD wrote code for a special edition of MIS IDA software to meet the needs of Learn$ave. Home$save, a matched savings program for home ownership, began a demonstration in 2004. Canada is moving forward with plans to provide incentives for low-income families to take advantage of Registered Education Savings Plans, with deposits of $500 at birth and $100 per year through age 15, and other educational savings incentives.
